Understanding Leptospirosis
Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that primarily affects dogs and targets the kidneys and liver. The bacteria thrive in warm, wet environments and are commonly associated with wildlife such as rats, mice, skunks, raccoons, and opossums.
Dogs and occasionally cats can become infected through:
Ingesting contaminated water.
Exposure of open wounds to contaminated soil or water.
Bites from infected animals.
